My Plate Calorie Tracker

Hello there bloggers, and welcome to the twelfth Fitness App Review blog! I decided to write about a nutrition app again because of the podcast I posted below. In the podcast, I talk about my struggles with dieting, how I fought those struggles, and I also left you readers a few challenges! This week, we will talk about the My Plate Calorie Tracker. This app is very user friendly, and it has a very easy log in process. You can choose to login through Facebook (which I did), or you can register under any other email. The app also links with your IPhone, which allows it to sync your Health app information.
This will let you track almost anything you eat, and will give you the closest estimation of how many calories you have just taken in. When I made macaroni, I had a very close calorie count, and then on the home page, it had how many calories I had to burn in order to meet my weight loss goal. The goal is set when you first log into your account. I loved how easy it was to use this app, and how organized the information was. I highly recommend this for anyone trying to go on a strict diet!

Instant Abs Trainer Review

What if I told you that a sweet summer bod is just one click away? What if I told you that you could get abs with just a little bit of work on your part, and all you had to do was to download an app? You would say that I’m full of…”it”, right? Well you would be correct. There is no shortcut when it comes to getting that summer body ready, but the 100+ ab exercises on the “Instant Abs” app will definitely will help you get there. This app is incomplete, and the user has the ability to do many different lifts and body groups. The simple layout is perfect for any aged user, and it also has workouts that allow you to multitask at home.
 I decided I wanted to try one of the body weight workouts, and they only last about 7 minutes, depending on the selected workout. My first time through, it was honestly really easy, and I hardly got a workout. But the beauty of this app, is that it has all of these workouts for you, and you can manipulate your workout based on your ability. I decided to try some of the more advanced movements, and apply them to the same routine as the workout that is supplied by the app. I got WORKED. It was honestly quick and not so easy, but simple. I really like that you can continue to work the core without having to repeat the same lift over and over again. This is what really makes this app worth of a download to me. Hope you all like it too!

Apple Watch Activity App.

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another fitness app review! Just this week I was wondering what to write about…then it hit me. I have had an Apple Watch for the whole semester, and I have yet to write about the built in application. This handy device picks up on almost everything you do throughout the day. The app comes with three goals that you can choose to meet, and it is helpful for keeping up with your calories that you have burned. I have used this app since the first day I opened my Apple Watch. Next I will take you all through the settings that this app has to offer.
First you have the “Move” ring on the watch. This is the outer most ring, and is the biggest goal you have. What this does is count the amount of time you were active throughout the day, and it keeps track up until you meet your goal. The goal is something you set before you use the app, and it can be updated whenever you want. Next is the “Exercise” ring, and this is the middle loading bar. This will keep track of your intense activities. This will pick up jogging, sprints, lifting weight, etc. Lastly, you have the “Sitting/Standing” ring. This is the smallest amount of bar available, and I admit, the only bar I complete each day. With all three of these bars, it is easy to keep track of. It also archives your achievements, and previous workouts so you can see how you did the previous week/month. I love this app, and it has helped keep me honest this whole semester!

Fitness Point

The Fitness Point is an app much like WORKOUT because it shows how to do specific lifts, as well as having beginner workouts. This app doesn’t have a pretty homepage, or interface, but it is very simple to use, as well as easy to master. There are 3 main sections on this app: Exercises, Workouts, and Logs. These are the main segments where this app specializes its setup. In the Logs section, you can see past workout like the WORKOUT app. This allows you to keep track of your workouts in a calendar month. The Workout section has a beginner (free) version that actually breaks down the reps, and the sets for you. So you can see that you have Chest Press and it tells you to do 4 sets of 10 then 2 sets of 10. This is a very simple and easy to follow workout for anyone interested in bettering themselves. The Exercises section has detailed info on how to actually complete the workout that was given in the Workout tab. This is an easy reference for all users, and very easy to find. Overall, I think this app is nice, but in the long run, you are better off using WORKOUT because it is an easier app to use, and it looks better. This Fitness Point app looks a little suspect for unwanted popups. Thanks for reading!

Workout App. Review

Hello again folks, and welcome to yet another fitness app review. It is hard to keep up with these posts because I am trying to actually use the app for a while before I post anything! So let’s get started. WORKOUT is another very user friendly app that shows very clear GIFs of the actual workout itself. This means that it is a great app for any beginner out there who is considering using this app to increase their technique. Coming from my experience on the Washburn Football team, I know that it is imperative to learn and practice good technique before adding weight.

Now this app does have in-app purchases, so this might turn some of you all off. This app does come with two beginner level workout plans built to help beginners get their foot in the door. This app compiles your workouts done on the app, and show you your history of workouts. I believe that this is useful because there is proof of your hard work right in front of you, and this can be your motivation to make yourself better every week! Overall, I believe this app is very useful for any novice fitness nut, or anyone trying to get back into the swing of things! Thanks for reading!

Home Workout App.

For the second post this week, I decided to look for an app that is similar to my favorite fitness app Sworkit. I found an app called Home Workout (5 minutes). The idea of this app is very similar to Sworkit, and has many similar features. The look of the app is very simple, and it is easy to navigate. This allows any ages to get into the workouts! The only downfall to this app is that it doesn’t look as good as the others. I was turned off from this app right when I opened it. I attempted the multi-workout stage, and I loved it! In just 5 minutes, you can burn calories.
 

I was watching Captain America today, and I decided to use this app between commercials since they are about 5 minutes long as well. I figured out that the workouts sometimes included dumbbells, and that is inconvenient for those who done own them. So if you choose the arms and chest workout, be sure to be around weights of some sort! This is the only downfall of this app. It is a nice little smaller version of Sworkit, and I believe it to be pretty helpful to someone who has access to a personal gym! 


Fitness Buddy

Hello again, Bloggers! This week I will be reviewing the app Fitness Buddy and I will add a few personal opinions about it as well. The Fitness Buddy not a fancy app, or even a pretty one. From the very first time I opened it, I was unimpressed by the home page. I really want the apps I use to look clean, and be easy to use. I also do not want any ads for additional purchases, which this app has. After battling the ads and finding a workout, it was a lot like the other apps I have reviewed.


The only thing I believe that this app is great for, is getting an understanding of how to properly execute the workout. Other than this, the app falls very short of my expectations of a fitness app. if you are a beginner, and want to learn how to do specific exercises, this app might be good for you, but I would also recommend you take a look at the previously published Sworkit app. I deleted this app after exploring it. Not very impressed at all. I am using this post as a warning for the Bloggers out there who are looking for something helpful!

Spring Break Exercise!

Hello, and welcome back to my blog! Instead of reviewing an application, I will give some helpful tips if you are ever in a place with high elevation! I am in Crested Butte Colorado for a couple days and the difference in elevation is already noticeable. Right when I got out of the car I could tell something was different. In high elevation, it is imperative that you drink LOTS of water. You can never drink enough within your first 12 hours in the mountains.


When up in the clouds, it is also important to realize that all of your movements will seem hindered. Your breathing will be difficult at times, and you will be exhausted after your first day or two. This is all completely normal. The oxygen level is different in higher elevation, so it is harder to supply your muscles with the oxygen it is used to. High level athletes train in the mountains for the extra edge it gives them!

My Fitness Pal. Review

Hello again everyone, and thank you for visiting my blog again. This week, instead of researching an app. that helps you work out, or marks your workout progress, we will be discussing a dietary app. My Fitness Pal, is an app that is easy to use, and also excellent for tracking your weight goals. There is an easy access login where you can quickly create your account by using your Facebook. 

Once logged in, the application will ask you a series of questions so it can calibrate its information based on your goals. It will ask your activity level on an everyday basis so as to accurately determine how many calories you must eat, as well as how much you need to exercise weekly. Then it will ask how many pounds you want to lose each week. I selected two pounds a week, and then was alerted that, as a beginner, I should think about lowering my goals. After that confidence boost… I decided to go ahead and make losing two pounds a week my goal. The cheeky app will not scare me out of anything!

After 5 days of using this app, I am already down two pounds. I admit that I did exercise a little more than average in the last few days, but I am determined to beat this application. After tracking all of my meals, which are amazingly easy to find on the app., I can easily see what I can or can’t afford to eat. I love how easy to use this app is, and I love how you can find almost any food on the food search. I strongly believe that this app. is the start to eating right to lose weight. Two thumbs up for this week’s app!

Sworkit App.

This week I was able to experiment with the fitness application called Sworkit.  This health and fitness aid is rated five stars on the AppStore and rightly so. This app allows you to workout in any environment, and at any level. When you first open this app., it will ask you what your overall goals are. This is so Sworkit can target your workouts with your preferences. There are four categories that you can choose from: Strength, Cardio, Yoga, and Stretching. This allows you to choose any variety of activities. The workouts are all targeted at 5 minutes of activity.



When I was using this app. this week, I worked with the strength, cardio, and stretching sections of the app. I got halfway through the yoga category, when I couldn’t continue, or didn’t want to. I had to try each category, but the beauty of this application is that it allows you to choose a workout that is customizable to your likes/dislikes. Overall, this app is a handy fitness aid, and I will keep it on my phone for future workouts!

IPhone "Health" Application

Health App.

After purchasing that shiny new IPhone, turn it on, and start your downloading of applications and music, it is already working for you. Without your initiation, the Health app is already counting your steps, miles walked, run, etc. What is amazing about this application, is that it allows you to track for years! If I wanted to see my action during February 17th, I can find it in just a touch of two buttons! 

Other Options

I have the ability to see where I have made progress, or not, in staying active. You can see by the picture below that after January, I started working out more and more. You can also sync this application with an Apple Watch and that tracks your activity as you run! You have the ability to watch yourself and accurately trace your workout.

If you have yet to experiment with this application yet, I suggest you take a look! It will at least be interesting to see how active you have been since the start of the year!
